In a series of videos leaked to the public in the aftermath of the attack, the Max Brenner restaurant in the Sarona market is seen transforming from the image of calm dining into a war zone, two men in suits and ties pulling out makeshift firearms and shooting into the crowd. Four people were killed in the attack and 16 more injured. The two gunmen, Palestinians in Israel illegally, were caught shortly after the attack, one of them after a short police chase also caught on video. A little after 9:00 p.m., the two men — cousins, according to police; brothers, according to Palestinian media reports — entered the eatery, a fashionable international restaurant chain in Tel Aviv’s upscale Sarona Market. Approximately 15 minutes later, the two men took out Carl Gustav-style submachine guns and indiscriminately opened fire at the restaurant’s patrons. Watch More In CCTV footage released to the media, one of the terrorists can be seen gunning down a diner at point-blank range as people jump from their tables and flee the scene. The two terrorists continue to shoot as frightened diners make for the exits, some trying to knock over the shooters with tables and chairs as they run. Just before the two finish shooting and prepare to run away, one is seen throwing his gun at a wounded person on the floor as the other fires a parting shot at a man lying on the ground. When the two terrorists finished shooting — it wasn’t immediately clear whether this was from a weapon jam or if they ran out of bullets — they tried to flee the scene, police said. The two men fled in the direction of Ha’arba’ah Street, near the city’s Cinematheque movie theater, where they were caught by private security guards. One of the gunmen was taken in without the use of force, while the second was shot as he fled and was seriously injured. In the initial confusion, police believed a third man had also been involved in the attack and launched a large-scale manhunt to locate him but later called it off. Visiting the scene of the attack late Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed “decisive action” to track down those responsible for the third deadly attack in the city this year.
