Over the past several weeks, President-elect Donald J. Trump has been holding numerous interviews with candidates to fill his cabinet. While the media has been staked out at Trump Tower to see who the President-elect is meeting with, one future appointment has gotten little attention, the vacancy on the Supreme Court.
Ever since Justice Antonin Scalia passed away earlier this year, Republicans decided against holding hearings for Barack Obama’s nominee to replace the late justice and instead wanted the next president to fill any vacancy on the court.
Well, Trump just announced that his Supreme Court pick will be coming “pretty soon” and that he has narrowed his choices to “three or four” candidates who share views similar to those held by Scalia.
Speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity following a rally in Cincinnati, Ohio, Trump said that the candidates he has in mind are “terrific people, highly respected, brilliant people and we’ll be announcing that pretty soon too.”
Trump stressed that whoever he does nominate to the Supreme Court will be a constitutional “originalist” in the vein of Scalia.
Over the summer, Trump announced a list of 21 potential Supreme Court nominees that conservatives cheered as being in the mold of Scalia.
