Laimis Urbonas Photo Exhibit Offers a Delightful Travel Around The World

On May 5-7 Ciurlionia Art Gallery located inside of the Lithuanian Youth Center Chicago showcased a photo exhibit entitled “Click & Cork” by Chicago’s Lithuanian-born photographer Laimis Urbonas. The attendees had an opportunity to vicariously take a trip via photographer’s spectacularly captured destinations around the globe – all while tasting a variety of French wines.

The exhibit encompassed photographer’s work for the past 3 years, and included two distinct styles of motion – from ballet to travel.

In the motion part, Laimis wowed the attendees with his labor-of-love project “Body Geometry” that evolved from a relatively simple “admiration of ballet dancers’ body form and movement” to an impressive variety of photographs of Joffrey Ballet dancers that took thousands of shots and over 3 years to complete.

The travel photography part, captured, according to Laimis, “places and faces from different countries”, where he has been over past few years.

This three day exhibit not only offered a visual delight, but in addition, a musical, and a culinary experience. The exhibit opening treated guests to soothing Brazilian jazz music by Chicago’s own Luciano Antonio, accompanied by Brazilian hors d’oeuvres by Bravo Bites. The following nights provided an experience of a mix of cultural styles, with the final night adding poetry, flowers, and modern dance, in honor of the Lithuanian Mother’s Day.

We had an opportunity to briefly speak with Laimis about his photo exhibit and the idea behind the creation of this event. He explained that the idea was a collaboration that included Viktorija Cernicenko (Director of Ciurlionion Art Gallery), Laimis Urbonas Photography company, and Patrick Di Iorio (Sommerlier).” He went on to say that it was a “wonderful way to show our love for Art, People, and Travel.”

And indeed, it was a wonderful and memorable event that guests won’t soon forget.
