A new season begins as dazzling pianist Yefim Bronfman joins Riccardo Muti and the CSO in Brahms’ unabashedly vigorous and stirring First Piano Concerto on September 22 – 27. Tchaikovsky’s joyful Second Symphony quotes folk melodies from Ukraine. The program opens with the U.S. premiere of a long-lost and recently discovered score by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, a British composer of African descent.

Muti conducts Mozart and Prokofiev September 29 – October 1 at Symphony Center. Marking 70 years since Sergei Prokofiev’s death, the program features one of the composer’s greatest achievements – his towering Fifth Symphony. The program includes Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 and the buoyant overture to Rossini’s Journey to Reims. For tickets, visit c-s-o dot org.

Riccardo Muti leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Ravel’s iconic orchestration of Mussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition October 6-8 at Symphony Center. The program pairs Mussorgsky’s evocative tribute to his friend, the artist Victor Hartmann, with Mozart’s dark-hued final piano concerto and Franck’s supernatural thriller The Accursed Huntsman.
